Wellington Park is a vast natural asset that is enjoyed and valued by Tasmanians and visitors alike.
The park is a special reserve covering 18,011 hectares of land. From kunanyi/Mount Wellington near Hobart, it reaches north towards Glenorchy and Collinsvale, south towards Longley and Crabtree, and nearly 30km to the west. The park is owned by several public and private bodies and is managed by the Wellington Park Management Trust in accordance with the Wellington Park Act 1993.
The park offers visitors the opportunity to do a wide range of recreational activities and access natural space close to Greater Hobart. It contains significant ecosystems and is home to diverse geography, flora, and fauna, including some threatened species. kunanyi/Mount Wellington’s cultural significance is profound, ancient and continuing, with stories passed down over thousands of generations.
The park also needs to be managed for environmental risks such as bushfires as well as supporting functions such as fire management and water supply protection.
